In July 2024, AI Safety Institute of the US National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) published an [initial draft](https://nvlpubs.nist.gov/nistpubs/ai/NIST.AI.800-1.ipd.pdf) on “Managing Misuse Risk for Dual-Use Foundation Models” to provide guidelines for improving the safety, security, and trustworthiness of dual-use foundation models.

The AI Alliance provided a detailed response to the document in September 2024. NIST adopted many of our recommendations and published the [second public draft](https://nvlpubs.nist.gov/nistpubs/ai/NIST.AI.800-1.ipd2.pdf) in January 2025.
