The AI Alliance's July 29 webinar laid out where it's headed next. Here are the five things to know:
1. Open Source AI is at its 1994 moment. Closed, metered access today looks like the walled-garden internet before open protocols created a $15–23T economy. The Alliance is racing to keep AI on the open path.
2. The Open Source AI Fund is live. A new philanthropic vehicle funding open data, models, tooling, and governance research —
$5M seed by September, $25M by year-end, $100M long-term. Apply, join a review panel, or sponsor: osaifund@thealliance.ai.
3. Project Tapestry is building sovereign, frontier-scale open models. A global consortium led scientifically by Yann LeCun, already 36 organizations deep after its May Paris workshop. 4. A new 501(c)(6) association gives the Alliance real policy teeth. Unconstrained by nonprofit lobbying limits, it's targeting $2.5M for a 2026 policy push and a DC event this Fall. Contact kbhatta@thealliance.ai.
5. There's a lane for everyone. Free community membership (c)(3), dues-paying advocacy membership (c)(6), or a Tapestry LOI — 205 organizations across 29 countries are already in.
